SARS-COV-2
Using Spectradyne’s nCS1TM to quantify the SARS-CoV-2 virus
Dr. Zoltan Varga, of the Biological Nanochemistry Research Group at the Research Center for Natural Sciences in Budapest, Hungary, used Spectradyne’s nCS1 to measure the size and concentration of live SARS-CoV-2 virus in cell culture media. While we wait for the resulting publication, he presented his results at the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles’s Infectious Diseases meeting in February, and in more detail in a webinar hosted by SelectBio and sponsored by Spectradyne. Nanoparticles from PEG
Does polyethylene glycol (PEG) form its own nanoparticles? Yes, we measured them!
PEG has been in the science news recently as being a possible cause of rare but acute allergic reactions in COVID vaccine recipients. The hypothesis is that in rare cases, patients whose immune systems have been sensitized by prior exposure to PEG may exhibit acute immune responses to the new vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, in which the active ingredients are encapsulated in PEG-coated lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). Do PEG nanoparticles form spontaneously in solution? Yes, and you can read about our measurements here. Likely other vaccine additives do the same — should vaccine makers be concerned?
