Methods for characterizing EVs and synthetic nanoparticles
Researchers from Johns Hopkins University and the National Institute of Standards and Technology published a thorough study comparing four technologies for characterizing extracellular vesicles (EVs) and synthetic nanoparticles. Learn how Spectradyne’s Microfluidic Resistive Pulse Sensing (MRPS) stacks up against Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis (NTA), Nanoflow Cytometry Measurement (NFCM) and Single-particle Interferometric Reflectance Imaging (SP-IRIS) in the Journal of Extracellular Vesicles, here.
Characterizing complex biofluids
Scientists at the University of Amsterdam at AMC and the Research Center for Natural Sciences developed standard methods and operating protocols for measuring complex biofluids with Spectradyne’s nCS1TM instrument. Read about it in PLOS One, here.
Purifying extracellular vesicles (EVs)
Our favorite Australian customer, Exopharm Pty Ltd., published the long-anticipated details of their commercial process for purifying extracellular vesicles for therapeutic applications. Spectradyne’s nCS1TM features prominently as a metrology used to characterize and monitor this process, which is called Ligand-Based Exosome Affinity Purification (LEAP). The process is scalable to high throughput and therefore delivers a viable solution to a critical scale-up bottleneck for the practical commercialization of EV-based therapeutics in the future.
Controlling EV concentration
Researchers at Case Western Reserve University demonstrated that extracellular vesicles (EVs) generated in SARS-CoV-2-infected cells can carry the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and block therapeutic antibodies. The scientists used Spectradyne’s nCS1 to control for EV concentration — a critical experimental variable — in comparison tests of the biological activity of different EV preparations. This use case is a textbook example of how good metrology can lead to better science! Read in more detail here.

In the second quarter of 2021, Spectradyne proudly sponsored the 2021 annual meeting of the American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy, and the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles 2021 meeting, both of which were held virtually. In July Spectradyne will sponsor the 37th International Symposium on Microscale Separations and Bioanalysis (MSB) 2021, usually held in Boston MA.
